On its 10th birthday, NouPou looks back, remembers, misses and records what has stood out over the last ten years. However, it also looks ahead to the next day – why not the next decade – of the Southern Suburbs and presents the faces that will shape it.
The Interactive European School has innovation written into its DNA. With a motto of “Reinventing Education”, DES is a model bilingual, Greek-English school and relies on experiential experience, experiment and discovery to make learning real fun for children.
The DES schools (kindergarten based in Vari, kindergarten and primary school in Varkiza) are not a continuation or legacy from previous generations, but personal inspiration and care of their founder, dr. Billy Constantara. “I dreamed of a school that shapes a different landscape in education. Which sets limits without exhausting authoritarianism, treats knowledge and development with respect without getting bogged down in outdated values and methods, and finally, heals the child’s soul from the “disease” of anachronistic systems,” she says.
In her plans for the immediate future, the expansion of the DES to the next educational level is the main focus since, in September 2024, the high school will also be operational. As for the secret of success, paraphrasing the well-known saying of Elytis, Dr Billy Constantara says:
Dare to change, to improve.
Talent to recognize, to meet needs.
Art to create, to lead to the uplifting of the soul with your work.
If Elytis were talking about DES in the three T’s of success, he would not be talking about luck but art. Success requires effort and vision, and its product is everything excellent.
